Alan Wickes is unashamedly ambitious and clever. Aficionados of those who enjoy the "modern idiom within a formal verse setting" that Wickes proclaims as his preferential style will savor this collection like an elegant crossword.

Anna Evans, Barefoot Muse, Summer 2008

What an imaginative triumph to locate the exiled magician-duke not on stage, but to place the actor, with his "rehearsed panache", on tour in his digs.....The ironies of this contrast are pointed by the use of precise detail: so Prospero's cell is a "spruced-up" Laura Ashley room and his magic the breakfast squeezing of "two cups from one tea bag".

available from  Exot Books

'voceti', Alan's latest book, includes material written for an on-line creative project utilising poetry, video mash-ups and 'virtual installations' within landscape to explore the relationship between text, utterance and locale.

In addition to recent work, the book also includes a retrospective of all published work to date as well as some early unpublished pieces.

"Alan Wickes is a storyteller. His poetry explores place, character and situation with a cinematic sense of atmosphere and telling detail. Although the setting is contemporary, his characters are archetypal - a noir-style sleuth and his femme fatale, the lone traveller, an abandoned lover - romantics unwittingly marooned in postmodernity."

The book is available through Amazon/Kindle
